Mumbai, Delhi in world's top 50 wealthiest cities

Delhi and Mumbai have climbed in the rankings of the world's wealthiest cities. Their ascent is indicative of their growing economic importance globally.

Mumbai takes 24th position in the list.

India is experiencing significant prosperity, with recent global data revealing that two of its cities have secured positions in the list of top 50 wealthiest cities worldwide. Mumbai, known as the “city of dreams,” and Delhi, the capital, have both made notable appearances, according to a report by Henley & Partners. This list provides insight into the wealth distribution within these cities. While New York maintains its leading position, it’s noteworthy that cities from other countries have also earned spots on the list, showcasing the evolving landscape of global wealth distribution.

Mumbai’s reputation as the financial capital and Delhi’s significance as the political and economic hub likely contribute to their positions on the list.

While New York retaining its top spot isn’t surprising given its status as a global financial centre, it’s encouraging to see other countries making strides in wealth accumulation. It reflects the shifting dynamics of the global economy and the emergence of new players on the world stage. This kind of recognition not only boosts the image of these cities but also highlights the potential for further growth and development in India and beyond.

Surprisingly, a city in China, Shenzhen has shown  remarkable growth in millionaire numbers, a staggering 140% increase between 2013 and 2023, reflects the city’s dynamic economic transformation and rapid development. Its reflects status as a leading economic powerhouse in China and underscores the city’s position as a global centre for innovation, entrepreneurship.

Mumbai and Delhi

According to the list, Mumbai holds the 24th position and boasts a substantial number of affluent individuals. The city is home to 58,800 millionaires, 236 centi-millionaires, and 29 billionaires.  Mumbai has witnessed a remarkable growth in millionaires, reaching an 82 percent increase from 2013 to 2023.

On the other hand, Delhi, positioned at 37th place, has demonstrated remarkable progress, outpacing cities like Moscow, Taipei, and Washington DC. Over the past decade, Delhi has experienced a staggering 95 percent growth in millionaires. According to the, Delhi is home to approximately 30,700 millionaires, 123 centi-millionaires, and 16 billionaires.

These statistics showcase economic growth and wealth accumulation within both Mumbai and Delhi. The significant rise in the number of millionaires and billionaires in these cities reflects their growing prominence as global economic hubs and highlights the opportunities available for wealth creation and investment in India.
