Starting August 15, citizens of Mumbai who have received their second dose of vaccine, a fortnight (15 days) ago would be allowed to travel on local trains, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Sunday. The decision came after the state has seen a drop in daily cases of Covid-19, which was logged between 6,000 and 7,000 in the last few days.

Maharashtra had recorded 41,774 cases in seven days till Saturday as compared to the first week of July, when 61,489 cases were recorded. There were 5,508 new Covid-19 cases  and 151 related deaths recorded on Sunday, which had taken the total tally of cases to 63, 53,328 and the death toll to 1,33,996.

While addressing the citizens of the state on social media, he said that Mumbai has 19 lakh people who have taken both their doses and would be allowed to travel on local trains by registering themselves through an app. And, those who do not have smartphones can take photo passes from municipal ward offices in the city as well as suburban railway train stations.

Decision to reopen restaurants and malls to be taken today.

Thackery also said that the decisions to reopen malls, restaurants, hotels, and religious places will be taken today during the meeting of the Covid-19 task force and finalise the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Further, he added that if there is a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases again, then another lockdown would be imposed.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that six districts are still a cause of worry as the number of Covid-19 cases are still high. These districts include Pune, AhmedNagar, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Beed.
