New Delhi: Giving some relief to residents, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has extended the last date for filing property tax till July 15. The announcement came late on June 30.
“People will get the rebate of 15% for advance payment, 15% for senior citizens and women and 2% extra rebate for online payment, if taxable amount is up to Rs 10,000, till July 15,” an official is quoted as saying in a media report.
NDMC had earlier set June 30 as the deadline for filing property tax. The last date saw a huge rush to pay the tax and avoid penalty. Though an online facility has been extended to filers, many had opted to make cheque payments at NDMC offices.
Complaints poured in on the last day about malfunctioning of the online facility. The NDMC official attributed this to the system witnessing a heavy rush on the last date.
Another civic body South Delhi Municipal Corporation is also mulling extending the deadline. Residents falling under the East Delhi Municipal Corporation have already been given time till August 31.
NDMC is reported to have collected Rs 190 crore as property tax till June 30. It received Rs 32 crore in a single day on June 30.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation is believed to have collected Rs 250 crore as property tax till June 30. It has set a target of 950 crore for 2021-22.
