In the month of August, Delhi has recorded over 40,000 people collecting food grains from fair price shops and availing of the benefit One Nation One Ration Card scheme (ONORC). Earlier in July ONORC was implemented in Delhi. Over 16,000 had availed of the scheme after its implementation in the month of July. The capital has a total of 2,000 fair-price shops, while the number of cardholders is 17.77 lakh and 72 lakh beneficiaries. Over 40,797 migrants collected food grains in Delhi in August. The scheme has helped migrant workers to get ration from any fair price shop. The scheme allows only ration card holders under National Food Security Act to collect the quota of food grains from any fair price shop in India.
The identity and entitlement of beneficiaries are verified through Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication with the help of ePoS machines. ePOS machines enable migrant workers to access their subsidized food supply anywhere in the country.
Through electronic point of sale devices, the Delhi government distributes free ration to beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).
