Several websites on Thursday evening faced an internet outage. Services of companies such as Paytm, Zomato and Disney+ Hotstar were down briefly. Akamai, an internet infrastructure provider, on Thursday confirmed that it is facing an issue with its Edge DNS.
However, within minutes of the outage, the company clarified that it has implemented a fix for the issue.
We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated.
Akamai, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, counts some of the world’s biggest companies and banks as customers.
According to DownDetector, some of the affected sites that were hit included popular gaming services Steam and PSN, streaming services like Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5 and SonyLIV. The outage also hit e-commerce platforms like Zomato, Amazon, and Paytm were also affected.
The disruptions came just days after many of the world’s top websites went offline briefly due to a problem with software at Fastly, another major web services company. The company blamed the problem on a software bug that was triggered when a customer changed a setting.
