Petrol, diesel prices hold steady for 8th day in a row

The fuel rates in Mumbai are currently the highest among all four metro cities

The demand for petrol increased from 19,91,000 tonnes in May to 24,09,000 tonnes in June

Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged on 7 April for the 8th day in a row. The oil retailers had slashed prices last on 30 March. Overall in March, petrol became 61 paise cheaper and diesel price dropped by 60 paise.

OMCs have maintained the price stability for over a week now with an eye on the crude price movement, which has dropped to $62.5 a barrel.

In Delhi, petrol rates held steady at ₹ 90.56 per litre and diesel was untouched at ₹ 80.87 per litre, according to Indian Oil Corporation. In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices stood at ₹ 96.98 per litre and ₹ 87.96 per litre respectively, according to the state-run oil refiner. The fuel rates in Mumbai are currently the highest among all four metros.

According to media reports and industry experts, fuel prices may increase if the crude and crude related products will see the rise. But, in the current scenario prices can be seen falling further a bit or remain stable.

State-run oil marketing companies – Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum – align the prices of domestic fuel with global crude rates by taking into account any alterations in the foreign exchange rates. Any changes in fuel rates are implemented with effect from 6 am each day.
