Petrol prices have already crossed the Rs 100-mark in more than 20 states and union territories - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Manipur, Ladakh, Bihar, Punjab and others. Petrol and diesel prices get revised in India every day at 6 am.
Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged on May 28 after a day’s hike. The auto fuel prices had touched a new all-time high on Thursday, with petrol becoming costly by 24 paise and diesel by 29 paise per litre.
Today, a litre of petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 93.68 and diesel Rs 84.61, according to Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest fuel retailer. While in Mumbai, a litre of petrol and diesel costs Rs 99.94 and Rs 91.87 respectively.
Petrol prices have already crossed the Rs 100-mark in parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Petrol price has increased by Rs 3.28 so far in May, while diesel price has surged Rs 3.88 per litre. Yesterday’s increase was the 14th increase since May 4, after the state-owned oil firms ended an 18-day hiatus.

Fuel price above Rs 100 mark:
Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan has the costliest petrol and diesel in the country at Rs 104.67 per litre and Rs 97.49 a litre, respectively. Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Banswara, Ratnagiri, Parbhani and Aurangabad are also few cities selling auto fuel above Rs 100 mark.
Prices differs due to difference in taxes:
Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges. Rajasthan levies the highest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh.
For diesel, the central add excise duty up to Rs 31.83 and VAT to Rs 10.99. Besides, the price also includes a dealer commission of a minimum of Rs 2.6 per litre on petrol and Rs 2 on diesel. Any changes in fuel rates are implemented with effect from 6 am each day.
