Telecom operator Reliance Jio on March 9 said it will offer broadband services to the micro, small and medium businesses (MSMBs) at lower tariffs. Jio said it will offer broadband services to MSMBs at one-tenth of the rate in the market currently.
“Currently, a micro and small business spends between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month towards connectivity, productivity and automation tools. Today, we are taking the first step towards empowering small businesses by giving these solutions, along with our connectivity, for less than one-tenth the cost, starting below one thousand rupees per month,” Jio Director Akash Ambani said in a statement.
At first, Reliance Jio is planning to serve around 50 million MSMB consumers.
“With this step, I am certain that millions of micro, small and medium enterprises will propel towards prosperity and march towards creating a new Aatmanirbhar digital India,” Ambani said.
Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), that got badly hit by the pandemic, are very important for the growth of the Indian economy. The economy has shown some pace of growth. Therefore, the growth of the MSME sector will ensure that the economy grows smoothly.
For the MSMB sector, the majority of their money goes towards digital needs. With such steps, these overhead costs can be controlled. With over 60 million business units, the sector contributes to 29% of India’s GDP, 40% of exports and employs over 110 million people.
Telcos are joining forces to accelerate the pace of the Digital India mission. Earlier, Bharti Airtel also announced its partnership with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), to promote the government’s mission of “support MSMEs.”
The partnership of Airtel and NSIC was key to the government’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Ajay Chitkara, Director & CEO, Airtel Business said, “MSMEs are critical to the Indian economy. We are delighted to join hands with NSIC to fast-track their digital transformation journeys. Airtel’s pan-India network, deep distribution reach as well easily accessible digital platforms will give MSMEs the flexibility and convenience of addressing all their digital connectivity requirements through a single window.”
Vodafone Idea also announced multiple relief measures for the MSMEs to help them manage their bandwidth needs and boost their web presence.
