The much-awaited Jio Phone Next is all set for launch on Ganesh Chaturthi day tomorrow. Co-developed by Google and Reliance Jio, the device is termed as the ultra-affordable smartphone. Though there is no official word on the price of the smartphone, reports had signaled towards a price way below Rs 5,000. This could make it the cheapest smartphone available in the market.
Jio plans to sell five crore units of the handset in the next six months, according to a report in India Today. Jio Phone Next is designed for people looking to upgrade from 2G to 4G connectivity.
While the design of the 4G smartphone was displayed earlier, technical specs are kept a tight secret. However, as per some information doing rounds on social media, it is signalled that Jio Phone Next may run on Android 11 and may feature a 5.5-inch display. Powered by a Snapdragon 215 SoC, it may come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. 13-megapixel rear and an 8-megapixel selfie camera are expected among the features.
The device is likely to have the complete set of Jio and Google apps, including Play Store. It will also feature Google Assistant, text-to-speech capabilities and language translation features.
Google has partnered with Snapchat to integrate India-specific Snapchat Lenses into the phone’s camera, according to an NDTV report.
Another report by ET Now quoting sources has said Jio has tied up with banks to bring down the initial pricing of this device. Buyers can get JioPhone Next at a marginal upfront payment of Rs 500 and pay the remaining amount in installments
Reliance during the AGM had announced that Jio Phone Next will be available on September 10.
