Forty-three new ministers were sworn in, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi revamped his Cabinet on July 8th. The new cabinet is said to be the youngest ever in the country’s history.
Here’s a look at ministers who will handle the key business ministries
The Prime Minister has retained the charge of the ministry of science and technology. While Amit Shah has been given additional charge of the newly created ministry of cooperation apart from the ministry of home affairs.
Mansukh Mandaviya, who was elevated to cabinet rank, has been put in charge of health, as well as chemicals and fertilizer. Dharmendra Pradhan who was the minister for petroleum and natural gas will head the ministry of education along with the ministry of skill development. Meanwhile, Hardeep Singh Puri has got an additional charge of the ministry of petroleum and natural Gas in the union cabinet. He will continue to serve as the minister of state for housing and urban affairs.
Former bureaucrat Ashwini Vaishnaw, an IIT graduate who served in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee PMO, has been given in charge of railways along with communications, and IT.
Piyush Goyal who was in charge of railways will hold the commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food, and public distribution portfolio as well as textiles ministry. Smriti Irani has been made in charge of the women and child development ministry. Civil Aviation ministry went to Jyotiradithya Scindia
Former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal gets charge of ports, shipping and waterways. While Nitin Gadkari will keep road transport and highways ministry. He has also been given charge of the AYUSH ministry.
BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav will handle the labour and employment ministry and environment. Narayan Rane will take charge of the ministry of micros, small and medium enterprises. And, Kiren Rijiju has been given charge of the law ministry.
Mahendra Nath Pandey, a senior leader from UP, will be the minister of the heavy industry while G Kishan Reddy gets tourism, culture and development of North-East. Parshottam Rupala has been given charge of the ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying.
