Sellers on e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon are gearing up for upcoming the online festival sale as they expect sales in smartphones, TVs, laptops, and home appliances to increase by 30-40%.
According to media reports, sellers on these marketplaces are placing big orders with manufacturers.
Consumer electronics goods drive sales
Avneet Singh Marwah, chief executive of SPPL, said that the marketplace sellers have placed 35-40% higher order volume as compared to last year. SPPL sells Thomson, Kodak, and Blaupunkt TVs online, according to a report in the Economic Times.
Apple, Samsung, LG, Godrej Appliances, Xiaomi, Realme, Thomson, Kodak and Blaupunkt are some of the major brands that are expected to see a spurt in sales during the festival sales.
“The e-commerce marketplaces are confident consumer sentiments will improve by Diwali with more vaccination, further increase in seropositivity rate in population, and a third wave, if any, will have limited impact on businesses,” Kamal Nandi, business head at Godrej Appliances said.
Nandi is also the president of the Consumers Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association.
Smartphones, laptops, and electronics had posted record sales in the festival season last year, owing to a large extent to e-commerce sales.
IPL, T20 World Cup to boost sales
Marwah also said the festive season will coincide with IPL and T20 World Cup which too are expected to boost sales.
Electronics items and smartphones were flying off the shelf during the previous year’s festival season. The market is expected to pick up momentum and the second half of the calendar year will be “really favourable owing to the festive season”, a Xiaomi spokesperson said.
The festival season sales on e-commerce platforms begin around Navratri and continue through multiple events till Dhanteras-Diwali.
