He also denied that he had any differences with state BJP president C R Paatil.
Vijay Rupani resigned as Chief Minister of Gujarat on September 11. The 65-year-old was sworn in as chief minister for the second time back in December 2017. Rupani told reporters that he has resigned as chief minister after meeting Governor Acharya Devvrat. Rupani said that, he was allowed to serve the state for five years and has contributed to the development of the state. Further, he will do whatever is asked by his party.

In BJP, there has been a tradition that responsibilities of party workers change from time to time. I will be ready to take whatever responsibility that the party will give me in the future, he added.
He further thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a ‘common worker like him this opportunity to serve the people of the state as chief minister’.

Party workers are always in a relay race in the BJP, where gives the baton to the other, Rupani said while talking about other reasons for resignation. He also added that the party will decide as to who the next chief minister would be.
Rupani hails from the Jain community which has around 2% of the population in the state. There is speculation that his successor may be from the patidar community.
