Vistara and AirAsia India will have more flights this year as compared to the 2019 winter schedule, according to data released by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). All other airlines apart from these two will be operating less than the number of flights they operated in 2019. The data said that AirAsia India will increase its total flights by 3.57 percent while Vistara would increase it by 21.73 percent, the highest among national carriers.
Spicejet’s total flights down by 30.61%
The government recently announced Tata Group’s acquisition of Air India. Among regional carriers, Star Air will be operating more than 120%, as compared to last year.
On the other hand, SpiceJet’s total flights will be down by 30.61%. The airline has decreased its domestic services by 31% to 2,995 weekly flights in the upcoming winter schedule as against 4,316 weekly flights that was approved for the 2019 winter schedule.
As per the data from DGCA, GoAir, would operate 2,290 weekly domestic flights in the winter schedule of 2021, as compared to 2,308 flights in the winter schedule of 2019.
Market leader IndiGo on the other hand will operate 10,243 weekly domestic services in this year’s winter schedule as against 10,310 flights back in 2019.
The winter schedule begins on October 31 of a year and ends on March 26 the following year. The DGCA has approved 22,287 domestic flights of Indian carriers for the winter schedule of 2021.
