With gold prices plummeting, if you have been thinking of buying it in smaller quantities, then there’s some good news for you.
The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) can now sell gold coins weighing 1 gram and 2 grams at airports and e-commerce platform in addition to selling gold coins in 5,10 and 20 grams categories.
The central government has approved several amendments to the Indian Gold Coin Scheme (IGC).
SPMCIL will also service export orders through its e-commerce portal at prices based on a board-approved policy.
Currently, IGC is manufactured in 24 carat of 999 fineness only. As per the new rules, now IGC will be made available in 24 carat of both 999 and 995 purity.
SPMCIL Mumbai has been provided flexibility to mint commemorative gold coins, order gold coins for gold holders like temples/trusts and introduce variants of IGC on special occasions.
