As we move an inch closer to digitalisation every day, insurance processes like claim filing have successfully confirmed to the new normal rather easily.
The Covid-19 pandemic gave many of us the not-so-good taste of indulging in life insurance claim filing. To ease down this process, insurers have adopted various digital mediums today.
Life insurance claims are being accepted by insurers on email and/or WhatsApp too. To initiate the process, relevant documents are to be sent to the insurer through these online modes.
The policy document alongside a verified death certificate issued by a recognised authority must be sent via WhatsApp or mail. Fully filled death claim application form and police first information report (in case of unnatural death) should also be attached.
Additionally, the post-mortem report (in case of unnatural death), hospital record (in case of death due to specific illness), identity proof of the beneficiary, NEFT mandate form attested by bank authorities along with a canceled cheque are also duly required.
Ideally the claim process should settle within 30 days of acceptance, it may take long in case any document is missing. Worst, the claim can be rejected if documents are fabricated. Make sure to arrange original and verified information well in advance.
As per the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), insurers are liable to provide live claim status on their websites. But you can also check the status through calls, SMS, email or WhatsApp.
