Do you know instead of rummaging through stacks of paperwork to find policy documents of your insurance policies you can easily store them digitally in one place? Are you aware that the government’s cloud-based platform called DigiLocker allows you to store all policy documents under one umbrella? Well, DigiLocker organises your paperwork much easier by fetching and storing all your insurance policies in digital form.
Recently Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) also asked all insurers to issue digital policies through DigiLocker. The electronic policy results in a reduction in costs, better turnaround time, faster claims settlement and reduction in fraud and better customer experience.
DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform for issuance and verification of documents and certificates digitally provided by the National eGovernance Division, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), under Digital India Initiative.
Step 1: Sign-up for a DigiLocker at https://digilocker.gov.in/
Step 2: Register your mobile number
Step 3: Verify your mobile number through OTP
Step 4: Select username and password
Several insurance companies have integrated with DigiLocker as an “Issuer” of Documents. Here you can fetch your policy from the insurance company just by sharing the policy number. If any one of the parameters filled does not match with the database of an insurer an error explaining the mismatch is shared prompting to share the correct information.
After filling in all the information, the policy document would be fetched from the records of the insurance company and added to your DigiLocker account. The platform also gives you the facility to share the document. Not only insurance companies third-party companies such as BimaPe has also integrated with DigiLocker to fetch policy documents on behalf of users to provide them with a personalized purchase experience.
Step 1: Select your insurance company under the “Banking and Insurance” section.
Step 2: Select policy document from the option provided.
Step 3: Enter policy details and other details required
Step 4: Select “Get Document”
Step 5: The policy will be fetched from the repository and within few seconds will be added under the “Issued Documents” section in your DigiLocker account.
