On the occasion of 75th Independence Day, we’re recollecting the moments when Divya Dutta, RJ Sayema, Captain Zoya, and Dr Shikha Sharma shared their personal finance experiences and their wisdom on how important it is for women to take charge of their own finances to attain financial freedom in today’s time.
Edited excerpts
“It is very important to manage your own finances money saved is money earned. I have lots of friends who don’t have their own account it is either a joint account or their husband’s. So you have to have your won financial presence and an individual bank account is a must for that. It gives assurance and confidence,” said actress Divya Dutta.
” I realised if I have to fulfill my dreams I need to be confident enough to handle my own money. I do not know why girls feel that money needs to be handled by their parents or elders. I think being a woman it is easy to understand money, we are intuitively able to understand it. When I opened my first clinic from the money I had saved money, I managed all the work, right from negotiating with vendors for building the clinic to plumbers, etc,” Dr Shikha Sharma said.
“Independence has to begin with financial independence. Financial independence does not mean you start earning and throwing an ego about it. You have to contribute equally to the household,” RJ Sayema said.
“I have always felt that whatever you have always save your money. You never know when you will be in need,” Captain Zoya added.
