Have you linked your Universal Account Number (UAN) with Aadhaar? If not, please do it as early as possible. You have only a few hours left to do this important and mandatory task. According to the rule that comes into effect from tomorrow, September 1, 2021, Aadhaar has to be linked with each and every Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account. If it is not done within August 31, the employer’s contribution to the EPF account would stop.
This is because the government has made it mandatory for UAN to be linked with Aadhaar so that employers are able to file Employee Cum Return (ECR) challan and deposit the money into the employee’s EPF account.
In addition, you will not be able to make a withdrawal from your EPF account if it is not linked with Aadhaar even after the deadline.
“Dear Employer, with the coming into force of section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, the ECR shall be allowed to be filed only for those members, whose Aadhaar numbers are seeded and verified with the UANs,” said EPFO in a latest statement.
The deadline to complete the linkage of Aadhaar with the account was earlier set on June 1, which was later extended to September 1 by EPFO.
Aadhaar can be seeded online, through the ‘Umang’ mobile app or by OTP verification. It generally takes two-three minutes.
