IndiGo, the country’s largest domestic airline, has performed better in the first quarter of 2023-24. In this joy, the airline has said that it will increase the salary of its employees. This salary increase will benefit about 4,500 employees of Interglobe Aviation. The new salary system will be implemented from October 1. IndiGo has made a record net profit of Rs 3,090 crore in the first quarter of current financial year.
Regarding the salary increase, Ashim Mitra, senior vice president of flight operations at IndiGo, shared an email with the employees on August 2, 2023. It said that the company is working with the HR team to increase the salary of the flight crew. According to Moneycontrol report, a good increase in salary is expected in case of the airline’s employees. The company had earlier given a three percent bonus to its cockpit crew in the January-March quarter.
In addition to the salary increase, IndiGo is also going to bring a policy to enable ATR-72 aircraft pilots to transfer to the Airbus fleet. Currently, the airline operates 39 ATR-72 aircraft. Indigo is the largest operator of aircraft in India.
Increasing demand for pilots: There is a lot of demand for pilots in the aviation industry these days. Especially senior commanders and trainers. These days many airlines are expanding their fleet and network at international and domestic level. Rival airlines have announced enough salary increases in the last few months. In June, 2023, Air India announced a 20 percent increase in the salaries of its pilots. Akasa Air announced an increase of up to 40 percent in the salaries of its pilots. In such a situation, Interglobe Aviation is also increasing the salaries of its employees.
IndiGo will expand operations: IndiGo will appoint 5,000-6,000 employees in 2023-24 under its expansion plan. However, the airline is currently facing a shortage of pilots for its ATR fleet. By June, 2023, IndiGo had operated 316 aircraft, including Airbus and ATR-72 aircraft. Infact, the fleet also included two Boeing 777 aircraft on wet lease from Turkish Airlines.
