Markets end with marginal losses amid profit booking

In Asia, stock exchanges in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong ended in the green, while Seoul closed in the red.

Indian benchmark equity indices settled with marginal losses on Tuesday amid profit booking. After swinging between gains and losses, Sensex ended 17.43 points or 0.03% lower at 58,279.48. The 30-share gauge scaled a record intraday high of 58,553.07. Likewise, Nifty closed at 17,362.10, down 15.70 points or 0.09%. The 50-share index hit an intra-day high of 17,436.50. HDFC, up over 2%, was the top Sensex gainer followed by Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Nestle India and Asian Paints. Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, HCL Tech, Infosys and Tata Steel were among the laggards. Most sectoral indices on the NSE closed in the red. Nifty Realty, closing over 2% lower was the top sectoral laggard followed by Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Metal. On the other hand, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Media closed in the green.
