Rising COVID-19 cases have blunted the positivity ushered in by the vaccination drive. With reports of vaccine shortage coming in, the government must now expedite the process of granting approvals to the other candidates, especially those who have received the nod in other countries.
Battling the second wave of COVID-19 infections, vaccination is the only weapon which can nullify this grave threat.
Only two approved vaccines won’t be enough to inoculate a large section of population in a short period of time.
Other vaccine candidates in trial in India include Russia’s Sputnik-V, ZyCOV-D by Zydus Cadilla, NVX-Cov 2373 by Serum Institute of India in collaboration with American company NovaVax, Hyderabad-based Biological E-Limited and HGCO19 by Pune-based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals.
The approval process should be expedited and the negativity surrounding the vaccination process should be removed.
A nimble-footed approach is need of the hour.
