If you are worried about Artificial Intelligence (AI), then this is a good news for you. The government is bringing the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill (DPDP Bill, 2022). The latest draft of the bill has also been released. It makes some changes in the draft bill. It has got the approval of the cabinet. Now it can get the green signal from the Parliament in the monsoon session. After this the bill will take the form of law. Some important information related to the new draft has come to the fore and from that the action to be taken regarding AI is known.

AI will not process your personal data
According to the latest draft of the Data Bill, AI platforms or models like ChatGPT or Bard will not be able to process publicly available personal data of Indians. That is, they will not be able to collect your personal data, will not be able to use it. Where ChatGPAT has been created by the US company OpenAI. Bard is Google’s AI platform. These models will be able to process your data only if there is prior approval for the same. Simply put, whenever the data of a user is processed, the approval of the end user will have to be taken for that.

Direct data processing will not be allowed if the bill takes the form of law and legal action can be taken for doing so. Something similar has happened in the US, where the US Federal Trade Commission recently started an investigation against ChatGPT maker OpenAI in a similar case.

No regulation
Although the Government of India has made it clear that it has no intention of regulating the AI model. Looking at the dangers associated with AI, it is possible that a system may be made for regulation, but for now it will not happen.
