Delhi Budget 2024: Education sector gets highest budgetary allotment

Delhi Budget 2024: Delhi Finance Minister Atishi Singh also proposed fresh allotments to build new schools, renovate existing classrooms in the national capital as she presented the State Budget 202402-25 on Monday, March 4, 2024.

Delhi Budget 2024: The Arvind Kejriwal-led government will continue to work for the enhancement of the education sector in the national capital. Delhi Finance Minister Atishi Singh has allocated 21 per cent of the Rs 76,000-cr State Budget for FY25 to the education sector. She has proposed to allot Rs 16,396 crore for the development of education sector in the national capital.

The Kejriwal government has again showed its firm stance for development of schools in the national capital. Atishi further said that she has proposed fresh Rs 150 crore for the construction of new schools and classrooms.  Atishi also proposed Rs 100 crore for training of teachers. She also proposed fresh allotment for renovating existing classroms in the government schools. Atishi said the Kejriwal government will implement Business Blaster scheme in its universities and ITIs through Rs 15 crore fresh allocation. The Business Blaster scheme has already been rolled out in the government schools.

Strengthening its firm stance on women empowerment, the Delhi government also announced a finance scheme for women in the national capital aged above 18. The Delhi government announced the ‘Mukhyamamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ wherein it will give Rs 1,000 per month to each women aged above 18.

The Delhi government allotted 11 per cent of budgetary outlay for the health sector. Atishi said she has proposed a larger chunk of the health sector budgetary outlay for improvement services of government hospitals in the national capital.

Delhi government will continue to develop unauthorised colonies in the national capital. In the State Budget 2024-25, the Finance Minister proposed allocation of Rs 902 crore for development of unauthorised colonies.

Atishi said, “Under the Delhi government, there are 38 hospitals where treatment is provided free of cost to more than 81,000 OPD patients daily and 65,806 IPD patients monthly,” she said.

Looking at the issue of highly polluted air in the national capital, in the State Budget 2024025, the Arvind Kejriwal government also set a target of having 80 per cent of total public buses plying on Delhi’s roads as electric by FY25.

She added, “There are 530 Mohalla Clinics in Delhi currently, where every day, 64,000 people receive free medicines, tests, and treatment.”

In transport, Delhi has largest electric bus fleet in India, and largest CNG bus fleet in the world.

The finance minister also proposed to increase more and more courtroom in the national capital for faster delivery of justice. Atishi informed the state assembly that the Delhi government through the free legal services has so far helped 1.25 lakh people get justice in various court cases. The Delhi State Legal Services Authority provides legal services to the impoverished in the national capital who cannot afford hiring a lawyer to fight their cases
