From June 1, Aadhaar mandatorily has to be linked with each and every Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account. If it is not done, the employer’s contribution to the EPF account would be stopped. They would be unable to file Electronic Challan cum Return (ECR) for EPF accounts that are not seeded with Aadhaar.
On June 1, EPFO sent a message to every concerned person and made it clear that Aadhaar seeding is mandatory for all EPF accounts.
The EPFO also directed the employers to get the UAN of all EPF account holders Aadhaar verified.
EPFO message
“Dear Employer, with the coming into force of the Section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, the ECR shall be allowed to be filed only for those members, whose Aadhaar numbers are seeded and verified with the UANs, w.e.f 01.06.2021,” said EPFO.
Aadhaar can be seeded online, through ‘Umang’ mobile app or by OTP verification. It generally takes 2-3 minutes.
Click on the e-KYC option under the ‘Manage’ section. Then enter your Aadhaar number and your name as per your Aadhaar card.
Your Aadhaar will be validated by UIDAI once you save the details.
It will take a minute or two.
Then the system will automatically link your Aadhaar with your EPF account once your KYC document has been validated from both the end.
Link by OTP
Log in at iwu.epfindia.gov.in/eKYC/. Enter the UAN and registered mobile number. Click at ‘Generate OTP’ option. Enter the OTP in the required field and select gender.
Enter your Aadhaar card number and select ‘Aadhaar Verification’ method. Select ‘Use Mobile or E-mail based verification’ option. Another OTP will come to your mobile number or email as per your selection.
Now enter that OTP and your EPF and Aadhaar seeding process is complete.
‘Umang’ app
Install ‘Umang’ app and open the app with OTP or MPIN. Now go to the ‘All Services Tab’ and select ‘EPFO’. Now click on ‘e-KYC services’ under the EPFO section.
Now select the ‘Aadhaar Seeding’ option under the ‘e-KYC services’ section. Enter your UAN and click on ‘Get OTP’. You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number. Verify the OTP and enter your Aadhaar details.
Again, an OTP will be sent to your mobile number. Click ‘Confirm’ and ‘Submit’. Your Aadhaar will be linked to your UAN once this process is completed within a minute.
