Last year on the occasion of National Panchayat Day, PM Narendra Modi launched the pilot phase of the scheme. It is a central sector scheme that can change transform rural India using modern technology tools.
Under the scheme, the survey of all rural properties using drones will be done and GIS-based maps will be prepared. Importantly, the scheme will provide a record of rights by issuing property cards to village household owners.
Around 4.09 lakh property owners will receive e-property cards today via video conferencing. The scheme is set to cover 6.62 lakh villages nationwide between 2021-25.
The scheme will aid buying and selling of property. Hence, avoiding any kind of dispute for the villagers.
It will also make village management easier for gram panchayats as determining property tax will get easier.
With the scheme accurate land records can be created, which in turn, will also help to strengthen the Panchayati Raj System.
Local people can use their assets as financial assets to access loans and other financial benefits.
