Amit Mishra’s scalps worth Rs. 37.6 crores spin Mumbai Indians out of the game

Mumbai Indians' famed middle order crumbled under the spellbinding leggies of Amit Mishra.

Mishra dismissed cheaply the MI’s fab four – Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Ishan Kishan ensuring a low score for MI. DC bowlers never let MI batting get off the hook, restricting them to a meager 137 for the loss of 9 wickets. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 44 (30) for MI. Shikar Dhawan (45 off 42 balls) and Steve Smith (33 off 29 balls) starred with the bat for DC. The slow pace of the track and tight death bowling was negated by Lalit Yadav 22 (25)* and Shimron Hetmyar 14 (9)*, to take DC over the line with 6 wickets in hand.

The Mumbai Indians’ multi-million dollar juggernaut couldn’t find a chink in the capitals’ defenses to breach. Whereas, the Capitals held their nerves under pressure and kept faith in its investment.

In the form of this crucial win, DC earned a significant ROI.

Here is a look at the performance of the top assets from both teams:

PERFORMERS

Rohit Sharma (Rs 15 Crores): The captain of MI was at his sublime best from ball one. After losing his opening partner Quinton de Kock (2 off 4 balls) early, Sharma formed a steady 56 runs partnership with Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 15 balls). “The Hitman” looked all set for a big one before being outfoxed by Amit Mishra. In his stylish 44 off 30 balls, Sharma hit 3 glorious fours and 3 breath-taking sixes.

Amit Mishra (Rs 4 Crores): The 2nd highest wicket-taker in IPL, kept MI batsmen hopping and guessing throughout. He triggered the collapse of MI batting with the wicket of Rohit Sharma followed by H Pandya, Pollard, and Ishan Kishan – a combined worth of Rs 37.6 Crores. Such high ROI, from a 38 year veteran, is worth its weight in gold. For his 4 wickets for just 24 runs, Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match trophy, as well.

Shikhar Dhawan (Rs 5.20 Crores): The dashing left-hander continued his sensational form against MI. Chasing 138 to win, the Delhi Capitals were off to a bad start, as they lost Prithvi Shaw (7 off 5 balls) in the 2nd over of the innings. Dhawan put up a solid 53 runs partnership with Steve Smith (33 off 29 balls) to save the day for DC. Dhawan hit 5 fours and 1 six to score 45 off 42 balls. Dhawan is still the highest run-getter of this year’s IPL with 234 runs from 4 matches and he retains the orange cap.

LAGGARDS

Hardik Pandya (Rs 11 Crores): It is hard to keep Pandya out of the spotlight in a match but alas, it happened. On this rare occasion, Pandya was dismissed for a golden duck, didn’t bowl, and couldn’t contribute much on the field as well. Playing an irresponsible shot of his first ball, Pandya became Amit Mishra’s 2nd victim. In this year’s IPL Pandya has scored only 35 runs in 4 matches a very low ROI for an Rs 11 Crores buy.

Krunal Pandya (Rs 8.80 Crores): The left-handed all-rounder’s performance has been equally disappointing this year. Scoring just 26 runs and claiming 3 wickets in his 4 outings. Coming to the crease at the dismissal of Hardik Pandya, he followed suit just 4 runs later. Krunal managed to score on a single of five balls before being cleaned up by Lalit Yadav.

Kieron Pollard (Rs 5.40 Crores): The disappointing run of MI middle-order continued as Pollard could only score 2 runs off 5 balls and looked clueless against DC’s bowling. With the ball, he did manage to pick up the wicket of Steve Smith but failed to have any further impact on the game.

DC moves to the 2nd position on the points table with their second win on the trot while MI slips to the 4th position with their second defeat of the season.
