How much do people of India earn? In which state do people earn the most, where the least? The country’s largest personal finance survey shows that the income of Indian families has increased in the last one year. But you will be surprised to know the reason for this increasing income.
Money9’s India’s Pulse Personal Finance Survey has revealed that an average family in India earns Rs 25,910. This figure is about 12 percent higher than last year’s figure of Money9. The average income of an Indian family in the 2022 survey was Rs 23,000. But one of the main reasons for this is the increase in earning hands. While last year the average number of members in the family was 4.2 and the number of earning members was 1.6, this year it has increased to 4.3 and the number of earning members increased to 1.8.
But here it has to be understood that what is the reason for increase in family income and number of earning members? In fact, during Corona, families living in cities had migrated to villages. Now after the effect of Corona is over, these people are returning back to the city to earn. In such a situation, family income and family size have increased compared to last year.
But do you know in which state of India families earn more? Money9’s survey has revealed that the top three earning states in India are Karnataka, Maharashtra and Chandigarh. Here the biggest change in the ranking has come in the first two positions. In last year’s survey, families of Maharashtra were at the first position with an average income of Rs 35,559. This time Karnataka is at first place with an average income of Rs 35,411. Whereas Maharashtra is at second place this year with an average income of Rs 35,392. Last year, Delhi was at third position with an average family income of Rs 28,536. This year, Chandigarh has a new entry with an average income of Rs 34,588.
The survey has revealed that the income of half the big states is less than the national average. There has also been a change in the ranking of the states which are lagging behind in terms of earnings. The average income of Bihar has increased, but still this state is the most backward state in the country in terms of income. In the last survey, the average income of families in Bihar was Rs 14,366, which has increased to Rs 17,567 this year. Last year, Jharkhand was at second and Odisha at third position, whereas Odisha has come at second and Jharkhand at third position.
This survey has been done by the reputed global agency RTI International. This agency has been conducting such surveys for big institutions like the World Bank. In India, a survey like Money 9 is generally conducted by either the Reserve Bank or the National Sample Survey of India. But the most recent survey of both these organizations is much older than Money9’s survey. Money 9’s survey on the current situation provides the most accurate information about the economic health of Indians.
