The central government has raised the basic customs duty on LPG. The duty has been increased from 5 percent to 15 percent. Not only this, now Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC) will also be imposed on it. Now agriculture cess of 15 percent will be charged on the import of LPG.
However, the customs duty on the import of LPG sold by oil marketing companies owned by the central governments will remain zero. The increase in duty will not affect the common customers. But for the rest of the importers who import LPG, the basic customs duty has now increased to 15 percent.
Propane, butane spared
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has notified this change. According to this, the government has taken a big decision and said that no basic custom duty will be imposed on liquefied propane, liquefied butane, and a mixture of liquefied butane with liquefied propane. This decision has brought great relief to the domestic consumers of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
No change in prices
Due to lower production of LPG in the country, cooking gas is imported from countries like Saudi Arabia. In such a situation, the price fluctuation at the international level have an impact on the price of cooking gas. After the review on July 1, new rates for LPG cylinders have been issued. According to this, there has been no change in the prices of 14.2 kg LPG cylinders and 19 kg commercial one.
