The directorate of income tax systems has issued a notice stating that the income tax department will launch a new e-filing portal on June 7, according to a report in The Economic Times. The services on the existing portal will not be available from June 1 till June 6 sue to the upgrade.
“In preparation for the transition to the new system, the existing e-filing portal will not be available to both taxpayers as well as department officers for a period of six days from June 1 to June 6,” the report said. Due to the unavailability of the system for six days, officers have also been advised to not fix anything for compliance during the six days period.
To give taxpayers time to adjust to the new portal, tax officials have been asked to schedule hearings after June 10. All the pre-scheduled hearings have been preponed or postponed to after June 10.
“It is clarified that ITBA and CPC system will continue to function for assessment-related functions. All orders, notices issued during the period will be visible to taxpayers after the new portal goes live on June 7,” the report added quoting the notice.
The taxpayers use the e-filing portal to file income tax returns and view other details.
The tax department officers including assessing officers, chief income tax officers use the e-portal for filling appeal, while the principal commissioner income tax interacts with taxpayers via e-proceedings through the portal.
