Can you unlock your Apple iPhone wearing a face mask?

Apple’s newest  software update – iOS 14.5 – is all set to introduce features that play to the tunes of current times. While the company has put enough focus on the digital privacy and securing of customers, it now gives users the option to unlock their phones with Apple Face ID while wearing a face mask. There’s one condition – your Apple Watch must be tied to the wrist.

While the iOS update is for iPhone 6s and later models, the ‘unlock with mask using Apple Watch’ feature is limited to iPhone X and later models with the support of an Apple Watch 3 or later models.

To install this highly useful feature on your device, make sure of certain prerequisites – iPhone must be updated to iOS 14.5 while iWatch should be upgraded to OS 7.4. The wrist detection of the watch must be turned on alongside Wifi and Bluetooth services.

Set-up ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’

– Go to iPhone Settings

– Click on Face ID & Passcode

– Enter Passcode

– Select Unlock with Apple Watch and switch on the feature

How to operate it?

– Now to operate this feature while wearing a face mask, make sure to unlock Apple Watch tied to your wrist

– Raise/tap your iPhone

– Look into the phone to unlock it

– Apple Watch will notify you with a vibration once the phone is unlocked

– In case the phone was unlocked by mistake/unintentionally, tap on ‘Lock iPhone’ button your watch
