The outbreak of coronavirus led to an unprecedented slowdown in the market which derailed businesses across sectors. Mobile phone and consumer electronics market suffered due to scarcity of components that couldn’t be shipped due to lockdown restrictions.
But the year 2021 looks promising with gadget makers confident of launching a raft of new products.
LG, Samsung, Xiaomi, Panasonic, Vivo and Realme are expected to launch several new models this year.
There were hardly any new gadget launches in 2020. Component supplies were on a complete standstill with Chinese containers being held up with the Indian custom authorities due to the border skirmish. The supply chain was paralyzed and technology innovation lost in the oblivion.
Semiconductors used in smartphones and television sets witnessed a drop last year but the situation has reportedly improved and domestic chip making capacities have also expanded.
With vaccination in progress, there is a rush of positivity among consumers as well as companies. To make up for for last year’s disappointment, gadget makers have mega plans to afloat the customers’ platter with latest electronic products. LG is planning to bring several new models of air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines. Mobile company Realme is going to launch a series of 5G smartphones alongside audio products which will be available at flexible price range. Vivo and Xiaomi are planning to launch products in categories like home appliances, industry executives revealed.
Market researcher GfK India said the consumer electronics industry recorded a decade high sale in home appliances during July-December while the value growth of smartphones touched the highest since 2011 during the Diwali quarter.
In a nutshell, electronics market went through a rough patch and is back like never before. To all the consumers, bountiful options of new gadgets await your pick in the months to come. Stay tuned!
