Is Google Phone app’s latest Caller ID feature a substitute for Truecaller?
When enabled, this feature will not only announce the caller's name for all incoming calls but will also help users discern if they want to answer the call without even looking at the device
The Google Phone application has finally been updated with advanced features. The app is introducing a Caller ID feature that will announce the name and number for all the incoming calls on your mobile phone. This looks like a standard replacement for Truecaller.
According to a report by XDA Developers, Google was working on the Caller ID feature since last year when it was first spotted in an APK teardown in September. It is now being rolled for the latest stable version of the Google Phone app.
A few screenshots displaying the new feature suggest the Caller ID feature appears on the main settings page under the name ‘Caller ID Announcements’. If you click on this, another page with a singular option ‘Announce Caller ID’ opens up. If you tap on this, a pop-up appears which allows you to select whether this feature can be applicable always, only when using a headset or never. Choose a setting as per your choice.
When enabled, this feature will not only announce the caller’s name for all incoming calls but will also help users discern if they want to answer the call without even looking at the device. This additional feature isn’t a breakthrough but might be extremely useful for users with visual impairment. It makes technology more accessible and user-friendly.
Many other features like call recording, spam protection, know who is calling you, visual voicemail, screen unknown callers have been included in the updated version of the app.
