Maldives and Dubai on the top among Indian travelers

Over 55,000 passengers had traveled to the Maldives from Mumbai since the commencement of air services on the route, under the air bubble agreement, from August 2020 followed by Dubai.

After lifting up of lockdown people wanted to travel but the fear of getting affected to  covid-19 and the restrictions made things difficult. However, the air bubble ties with few countries allowed to travel to few countries, and this list kept increasing with the fall in cases. According to Indian civil aviation, India has 27 countries in the air bubble agreement.

Ever since the Travel Bubble arrangements kicked off between India and several other countries, travellers including many Bollywood celebrities flocked to the Maldives, leaving our travel-hungry souls yearning for a holiday.

According to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), over 55,000 passengers had traveled to the Maldives from Mumbai since the commencement of air services on the route, under the air bubble agreement, from August last year. The ease in travel restrictions made the Maldives a preferred destination among leisure travellers, The island nation opened to all nationalities on July 1.

There is no specific data as of now, but in comparison to the Maldives, Dubai was the second most preferred destination. Russia and Armenia seem to be following due to ease to travel and quarantine restrictions.

Though many countries had opened their borders to travel around august 2020, they failed to find many travelers due to 14 Days quarantine and covid-19 test reports from both the traveling nations,  Maldives being the only country allowing everyone without any test or quarantine became the top choice.’’ said Sujoy Mitra, Founder of 7BillionIslands. The Maldives has also continuously been the top destination Indians want to head to over the years, he added.

As mentioned above, Right now, India has Travel Bubble arrangements with 24 countries including the Maldives, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United States of America (USA), United Kingdom, Germany, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Canada, Japan are few others on the list. Rwanda and the Netherlands were added recently. Iceland, The Seychelles, Romania, Cyprus, and Lebanon are the countries that opened their borders to travel if for people who are vaccinated.

According to Bhavesh Oza, Director of Bluestar Air travel, ‘’Travelling within India was preferred and is still being the best choice among the Indians. Goa topped the list with again many celebrities joining the hop into the waters. Kashmir, Manali, Rajasthan, fuelled the rally to travel within India.’’

The Covid-19 impacted the travel and tourism Industry the most worldwide. In 2020 COVID-19 has left the travel and tourism sector in tatters. As per a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Hotelivate study, the Indian tourism industry is set to lose around Rs 5 lakh crore and according to Statista 100.08 million employment loss is predicted to be 100.08 Million worldwide.
