Though a second wave of COVID 19 infection is threatening country, the fatality is low this time at 1.28%, prompting many to plan a short vacation. There are a couple of long weekends in the first half of 2022.
In the last couple of days, few states have imposed night curfews extending from 7 to 10 hours. In most of these places, night curfew will be in force till April 30.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has urged the states to impose night curfew instead of total lockdown.
So, here is a checklist of places you should try to avoid travelling to for some time:
Mumbai
The Maharashtra government has already imposed night curfew across the state from 8 pm to 7 am. Especially on weekends, a complete lockdown (8 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday) will be imposed in Mumbai and throughout the state to curb the spread of COVID-19 infection.
The restrictions came into effect from April 5. It will continue at least till next week. However, essential, medical services and transportation will be allowed. The curbs will also include a ban on gatherings of five or more people throughout the day.
Rajasthan
According to the guidelines, night curfew will remain in force from 8 pm to 6 am. Dining at restaurants and hotels during the curfew hours has been prohibited while home delivery of food has been allowed.
On April 9, the Rajasthan government extended the timing of night curfew to 10 hours in nine cities and to 12 hours — from 6 p.m. to 6 am — in Udaipur, one of the best tourist attractions in the state. The curbs will remain in force till April 30.
Delhi
In view of the rising Covid-19 cases, Delhi government imposed a night curfew in the national capital since April 6 from 10 pm to 5 am. The order will remain in force till April 30. Delhi reported more than 8,000 cases in the past 2-3 days, prompting the state authorities to impose strict curb during the night curfew.
Odisha
The Odisha government has imposed night curfew in 10 districts of the state in view of the recent spike in coronavirus cases. Night curfew has been imposed from 10 pm to 5 am in multiple districts like Sundergarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts. Most of the of the tourist destinations in the state are located in these districts.
Dehradun
On April 9, the Uttarakhand government announced a 7-hour long night curfew in Dehradun from 10 pm to 5 am starting today in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases. Following the order, Dehradun District Magistrate said, “Night curfew will be implemented from tomorrow following the cabinet order.” The night curfew will impose till April 30.
All schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun district barring Kalsi and Chakrata areas and in the municipal limits of Nainital and Haldwani will also remain closed till April 30.
Punjab
Amid a surge in COVID cases in the state, the Punjab government ordered an extension of Covid-19-related restrictions till Saturday. Then, on Friday, the chief minister said that the restrictions would be extended till April 30. Under the revised guidelines, the government decided to extend the night curfew from nine to 13 districts, including Ludhiana, Patiala, where the cases of infection are rising. The curfew will remain in place from 9 pm to 5 am every day. The restriction in the weekend will be strict.
The government has also banned political gatherings till the restricted period and said violators, including political leaders, will be booked under Disaster Management Act (DMA) and Epidemics Act.
Gujarat
The Gujarat government has decided to extend the night curfew in force in four major cities till April 15. The night curfew will continue in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot between 9 pm and 6 am till 15 April, according to the additional chief secretary, home department. Therefore, if you are planning to visit Sabarmati Ashram, or the Statue of Unity, check before making the itinerary.
