New Delhi: In today‘s era, Aadhaar has become the ‘One Document for All.’ Whether you need to get a SIM card, open a bank account, admit your child to school, obtain a ration card, driving license, or passport. Almost everywhere requires Aadhaar. Therefore, it’s essential to update your Aadhaar details periodically. The government has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free. Previously, the deadline was June 14.
Let’s find out what’s the new deadline UIDAI has set for free Aadhaar updates. Until when you can update Aadhaar for free? what is the process for updating Aadhaar online?
UIDAI is the organisation that issues Aadhaar and it has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar Card for free. Previously, The deadline was June 14, 2024, which is now been extended by three months to September 14, 2024. This means Aadhaar cardholders can update their personal information free of charge until September 14th. However, if you visit an Aadhaar center offline to update documents, you’ll have to pay a fee.
If your Aadhaar was issued 10 years ago and you haven’t updated it since, UIDAI advises you to resubmit identity proof (POI) and address proof (POA) documents to validate demographic details. This ensures better access to Aadhaar-related services and makes the authentication process more effective. Demographic details include name, date of birth, address, and gender.

Now let’s understand which documents are necessary for updating Aadhaar-

To update documents, you need to submit proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA).
  • Identity proofs like ration card, voter ID, Indian passport, government-issued identity certificate with address, etc., are valid as both identity and address proof.
  • Whereas documents like PAN card, driving license, photo ID with address, school leaving certificate with photograph, or transfer certificate are only valid as identity proofs (POI).
  • Similarly, recent utility bills (electricity/water/gas) of the last three months, bank/post office passbook, rent agreement, lease and license agreement are valid only as address proofs (POA).
Now the question arises, how to update Aadhaar details online?
  • To update documents for free in Aadhaar, you need to visit UIDAI’s website https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to log in
  • Verify the information related to identity and address.
  • Upload necessary documents related to identity and address and submit.

This way, the process of updating Aadhaar will be completed. But remember, you must register your mobile number to update online documents in Aadhaar. You can register your mobile number with Aadhaar only by visiting an Aadhaar center. Additionally, details related to biometrics such as iris, fingerprints, and photographs cannot be uploaded online.
