According to the rules of the Income Tax Department, the legal heirs of the deceased who received any income should file income tax returns. This person has to register himself as the legal heir of the deceased before filing the return. As per the rules, income tax returns should be filed till the date on which the person was alive. In such a situation, along with tax payment, its refund can also be claimed. If the return is not filed, then the Income Tax Department can send a notice on this income. First of all the income of the deceased should be calculated. Like a normal person, the income return of the deceased person is also filed.

How to register online
For this, first, go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
Now login here with your password and PAN.
Now go to ‘My Account’.
Register yourself as a representative now.
After this go to ‘New Request’.
Now fill in the information sought here like PAN card, name, and bank details of the deceased.
After this further action will be taken.

How to fill the ITR of the deceased
For this, you download the ITR form.
After this generate the XML file of the form.
In the option containing PAN card details, the legal heir will have to provide his details
Now select the ITR form name and assessment year
After that upload the XML file and submit the form after putting your digital signature.
