How to invest in international mutual funds

International funds are mutual funds (MFs) that invest in the shares of foreign companies. International funds are a good option of diversification through which an investor can reduce the geographical risk in his/her portfolio. The advantage of foreign exchange gains also comes from global funds. There are many funds in India whose 5-30% investment is in global stocks. Prableen Bajpai, Founder of Finfix says that international fund gives you the opportunity to invest in new themes and markets.

There are around 10-15 schemes like Parag Parikh Flexi Cap, DSP Value, Kotak Pioneer Fund which also invest in the global market. According to Bajpai investors often do not know where their funds are invested. It is important to review your portfolio before investing in an international fund. If the exposure of the existing fund is 25% of your portfolio, then you do not need to take a separate fund. But it is often seen that the share of the international market in regular funds remains small.
