Delhi Budget 2024: Kejriwal's new Delhi Government scheme for women

Delhi Budget 2024: College and school students are also eligible for Delhi government's ‘Mukhyamamantri Mahila Samman Yojana.’

Delhi Budget 2024: Delhi FinancegMinister Atishi Singh announced a new Government scheme for women the ‘Mukhyamamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ as she presented the State Budget for the financial year 2024-2025 in the state assembly on Monday, March 4, 2024. The Kejriwal-led government has again showed its firm stance for strengthening women empowerment in the national capital. The finance minister proposed to give Rs 1,000 per month to all eligible women in under the new scheme for women.

‘Mukhyamamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ Eligibility Criteria:

Beneficiary must serve the following eligibility criterion:

1. She should be a Delhi voter.
2. She should not be enrolled under any other government scheme
3. She should not be an income taxpayer

4. She can be a school or college student.

5. She should not be a pensioner.

6. She should not be a government employee.

Homemakers who satisfy the above eligibility criteria can also become beneficiaries of the scheme.

Atishi said, “Under this scheme, every woman above the age of 18 will be eligible to receive an honorarium of Rs 1,000 per month. So, whether she is a daughter studying in college needing extra books, a daughter preparing for a government job needing coaching, or a woman wishing to watch a movie in a cinema hall, now they will not have to ask for money from anyone for their expenses because their brother Arvind Kejriwal will provide them with Rs 1,000 every month.”

After the conclusion of Atishi’s Delhi Budget 2024 speech, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference hailed the ‘Mukhyamamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ as “The biggest step in empowering women in the world”. Kejriwal added, “We talk about women empowerment but it can happen only when you have money. When we provide money to the women, only then they would feel empowered.”

Kejriwal also informed that there were around 67 lakh women voters in the national capital. Out of which he thinks, around 50 lakh women can become beneficiaries of the scheme.

He also said women will also get self-declaration feature in the enrollment process of the scheme. This means, while, filling out the application form, the probable beneficiary can self declare that she satisfies the condition. She will then start getting the funds. All vetting will be done later on.

According to media reports, a similar scheme is also in practice for women in Madhya Pradesh. The scheme is known as ‘Ladli Behna’ scheme.
