Sensex created history surpassing the crucial psychological level of 54,000 a day after Nifty climbed 16,000
The move is aimed at providing easy access to investors to participate in public and rights issues
Investors got richer by Rs 2.27 lakh crore as the market capitalisation of the BSE listed firms touched a record high of Rs 240.02 lakh crore
On an intraday basis, Sensex touched a new peak of 53,478 and Nifty scaled to a new lifetime high of 16,025.
The 30-share BSE Sensex opened 238 points or 0.45% higher at 53,188, while NSE Nifty advanced 47 points or 0.30% at 15,932
Nifty IT index rallied 0.65% followed by the Nifty Auto index rose 0.47%. While Nifty Pharma, Nifty Metal were up in the range of 0.18-0.38%.
Tata Steel was the top Sensex gainer, rallying 6.87%, followed by Bajaj Finserv, SBI, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance and Reliance Industries
Sensex ended 209 points or 0.40% higher at 52,653, while Nifty 50 settled at 15,778, up 69 points or 0.44%.
As many as 27 of 30 Sensex stocks trading in the green. HCL Tech, Titan, Tech Mahindra, M&M and Asian Paints climbed over 2%.
BSE Sensex ended 135.05 points or 0.26% lower at 52,443.71, while the broader NSE Nifty slipped 37.05 points or 0.24% to 15,709.40
